The 'Casali' today are refurbished farmhouses used as private residential properties but they were once occupied by the families of the farmers working the land of Arceno. In each 'Casale' it is still possible to see the evidence of the family and community life of times gone by, such as the bread oven where bread would have been baked for the extended family, the wells for water and the aged fruit trees which the old locals remember for the sweetness of their fruits. These trees still growing in serene tranquillity amongst the ancient vineyards invoking a sense of the rich history of the region.
